Betul district, located in the heartland of India, has earned the distinction of being the origin of the river Paritra Tapti. Delhi is located on the Madras main line in the middle of Bhopal Nagpur. Situated at the focal point of unbroken India known from the survey conducted by Todarmal, one of the nine gems of Akbar the Great, this district reveals the tribal culture. Barwani district was established on 25 May 1998. This district in Purwa was a part of Khargone (West Nimar) district. The Barwani district is situated to the southwest of Madhya Pradesh, the sacred Narmada River forms its northern boundary. The district has Satpura ranges in the south and Vindhyachal mountain ranges in the north.The name Badwani originates from the forest of Bad, from which the city was surrounded in the old times, the word Vani is used for garden, hence the city is known as Barwani, which means Bad garden. The city Barwani was the capital of Barwani state before 1948. This small state was protected from British, Mughal and Maratha rule due to its rocky areas and less productive land. The city Barwani was formerly known as Bad Nagar and Siddha Nagar. The district is also famous for the Barwani Jain pilgrimage center Chulagiri and Bawangaja.There is a historical symbol of Barwani known as Tirgola. In the early 18th century, the district was divided between the two Gond kingdoms; The part of the district west of Wainganga was part of the Gond kingdom of Deogarh, while the eastern part was part of the Garh-Mandla kingdom. The Deogarh empire was annexed by the Bhonsle Marathas of Nagpur in 1743, and the northern section of the district was conquered shortly thereafter. This section, along with the rest of the Garh-Mandla kingdom, was annexed in 1781 in the Maratha province of Saugor, then under the control of the Maratha Peshwa.
