Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh is one of the best national parks of India to visit, which is located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh, has an area of over 110 km. It was declared national park in 1968 and then a Tiger Reserve in 1993. The current core area is spread over 700 km. The buffer is spread across the forest divisions of Katni and Umaria, and it has approx 800 Km. The park got its name from the hillock of the area, It is said to be given by Hindu Lord Ram to his brother Lakshman to keep a watch on Lanka. Hence the name Bandhavgarh (Sanskrit: Brother's Fort). Bandhavgarh National Park has a large biodiversity. The tiger population at Bandhavgarh is one of the highest known in India. The park has a large breeding population of leopards, and various species of deer. Maharaja Martand Singh of Rewa captured the first white tiger in this region in 1951.
